What to know about Resilience

Updated: Mar 4, 2023

Thanks to Molly Sargent for sharing this wonderful, timely quote from Howard Zinn on Facebook.

I think it's well worth posting here, also. The ability to cultivate the chemistry of hope and optimism is important for our resilience – at home and at work.

Serotonin (happiness and status), Oxytocin (social bonding and trust) and Dopamine (pleasure and reward) are the critical chemicals for optimism. To put that chemistry of optimism in place we need:

🌿 An increased awareness of our emotions.

🌿 The courage to face negative emotions when they flood our body. (If left unexpressed and unaddressed, they literally get stuck in our body, creating a toxic environment.)

🌿 A learning mindset so that we can take lessons away from all events – even negative ones.

This post also challenges us to identify those things we can control and to do what we believe is right within our sphere of influence, which helps ground us – reducing anxiety, inspiring hope, and boosting confidence – especially when other things around us seem or are uncertain.

How will you help create hope for yourself and your team?
